Ep.19 - What to eat after training

One of the most neglected and confusing aspects of Nutrient Timing is what happens AFTER training. While there isn’t a single formula to give to all athletes, nor do we know everything conclusively based on research findings, there are definitely considerations and nuances to be aware of when planning your post-exercise refueling and rehydration strategies.

In this Inside Scoop episode, Bob and Dina continue their discussion theme of Nutrient Timing from previous episodes by covering the ins and outs of what to eat and drink after your training and practice sessions. You’ll hear why it’s not as simple as drinking chocolate milk and why “the train to eat” approach has some cautions… and we much prefer the “eat to train” mantra.

We also discuss:

  • Water and salt post-workout: how much and what does it look like?

  • Does your caffeinated or alcoholic beverage count towards your rehydration? And how does alcohol affect the body’s recovery process?

  • Carbs: When are they the priority? Does it matter the type of carb?

  • Protein: Perhaps the “master macro” but there are still some moving pieces

  • Fat: Should you include it in your post-workout?
